Several years back our little town started an annual Dogwood Festival. As would be expected it was timed around the Dogwood blooming season which happens to be about the middle of April. Now, anyone living in these here parts can tell you the overall downside of that plan...it's called Dogwood Winter. You see, the end of March and early April brings warmer weather our way, but just about the time those beautiful Dogwood trees unfurl their petals we experience a dip in temps. It's temporary, of course, and only lasts a day or two and it's unfortunate that those couple of days seemed to consistently ruin our little festival. So, after a couple of years of lousy turn out, the city folk moved the festival to May and... WALLA...a beautiful weekend, a great time and a fantastic turnout. Okay, so technically the Dogwoods are finished with their annual bloom, but I like to think that we are still celebrating the beauty we enjoyed a few weeks prior.
The festival is held in out town square, which after receiving a fantastic grant is being restored to it's historical beauty. Hubby and I enjoyed the weather, music and food and I thought I'd share just a couple of photos I took during one of our visits. In the South we just Luv to deep fry..yup I think the Southern folks can deep fry just about anything!
Of course, there was Bluegrass...I can't even believe you'd ask that question!
There was general frolicking amongst the attendees. I don't know who she is, but she was having the
greatest of times! Ahhhh...childhood!!
And then...there is what I have dubbed..the Redneck Fountain. Yes, it's a truck...do you have an old truck sittin around your yard..is your wife naggin you about gettin rid of it? Wanna make her happy?
Well..here's whatcha do.....
Throw it in a rather large pond liner, surround it with plants, stick some water tubing through its' rusty holes, and you, my friend, have a one of a kind water feature for your landscape pleasure. Oh..don't forget the alligator (see him at the bottom of this photo)..it just wouldn't be the same without the alligator..!

Great pictures - love those small town festivals. Your flowers are beautiful. Dahlias in bloom already. I'm jealous! Mine are up but not ready to bloom yet here in Washington State.
Hi, i love roasted corn too which we do ourselves sometimes. You mean they deep fry corn there! I can't imagine that, haha.

Rosemary,
the Dahlias have just begun to bloom, though I find I've lost some to the abnormally cold weather this past winter :( I adore Dahlias. Washington State is a beautiful area..I lived in Portland Ore for awhile in my younger days and enjoyed the area.
Andrea...LOL..no they don't deep fry the corn..well, atleast not that I'm aware of, but I'm pretty certain someone has attempted it..LOL They serve roasted corns of ears at the festivals..they roast them in the husk and you just peel it open and commence to eatin. They do fry dill pickles which are actually pretty darned good and of course, green tomatoes which is a great way to use up the green tomatoes at seasons end.
I consistently receive comments from the person with the symbols, I have attempted to follow but doesn't seem to be anyone. Do either of you ladies receive comments from this person? I've become tired of it as it appears as spam.
Rhonda
Okay..I mean't roasted ears of corn...not roasted corns of ears..lol...sorry about that!
