Today is the official start of Summer! The Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. It's a bit hard to believe that Summer is only just beginning as its' been hotter than Georgia asphalt around here since the end of May. I love Summer, always have. Of course, it's not the hot weather I love so much..it's what Summer stands for. The lazy days of summer when we slow down just a bit and spend more time having fun with family and friends.
Twelve things I love about Summer----
1) Lightning Bugs--(or Summer Faeries as I refer to them) bring magic and whimsy to our Summer evenings.
2) Porch Rockers--the perfect place to enjoy a glass of Sweet Tea or Lemonade and visit with your neighbors.
3) Outdoor Parties on the Deck-- time to enjoy the company of our loved ones and share a few laughs.
4) Those Summer Night Campfires--which are perfect for---
5) Making S'mores--you can't have a campfire without S'mores..it just wouldn't be right!
6) The 4th of July Celebrations-- fireworks, parades, cook-outs, and sparklers..what's not to love?
7) Watermelon--Summer and watermelon go hand in hand..you can't have one without the other!
8) Time spent on the Lake-boating, swimming, fishing, floating and good old-fashioned frolicking!
9.) Sunflowers--the happiest of the summer flowers!
10) Just picked Vegies from the garden--I can't wait for that first ripe tomato, picked right from the vine and eaten before I'm out the gate!
11) Picking Wild Blackberries--and eating half of them before we get them home!
12) Using the half that makes it home--yummy preserves and jams await!
So, how about you, what do you love about summer?

Today I agree with Real Life Reslers...AC! We are topping a hundred with almost fifty percent humidity...too hot for me.
I love fire flies and frog song.
I love summer rain and gentle storms.
I love bare foot walking and water play.
Ladies..I agree with the A/C..102 heat index is just too much..my garden time has just dwindle..can't seem to find a good time to get out there and I'm wondering what the heck has happened to all of my butterflies..don't know if it's the heat or what. Gail..darn I forgot about the frogs...we always say Spring is here when we begin to hear the frogs. We sure haven't had many of those gentle storms, when it comes it's certainly not gentle..we've had nothing but trees down and lightning hitting peoples homes lately..if you get any of those gentle ones..send some over here if you don't mind..lol
With everyone complaining about the heat it is most refreshing to see a post lauding the benefits of summer. I love all of those you mentioned and air conditioning too;) Stay cool...
Have you noticed there are more fireflies this year than ever?
Hi Rhonda, your summers are really beautiful, lovely to expect and reminisce. Our summers are very different as we have long dry season in contrast to short rainy season. Of course we dont have your fall and winter. We only get our Dec-Feb to be a bit cooler than usual. This year we are experiencing long dry season and our trees are dying, not to mention the annuals which already died. The grassy mountains are already totally brown. I envy your part of the world, but of course we have some share of the beautiful too not to mention the perennial blooms hardy to withstand long dryness. thanks.I posted some effects of the climate this year, which is extraordinary. thanks.
